Accounts Overview
Learn how Common Cents uses accounts, how to manage them over time, and how closures and balances affect what you see.
Accounts tell Common Cents where money, debt, or stored value lives right now. Categories (which we will address in the budgeting section) answer a different question: what that money is for. When you open the Accounts page, you are looking at the “where” side of your plan.
At the top of the page, the header actions help you move into related tools quickly:
- View Payees opens the Payees workspace tied to account activity.
- View Labels opens the Manage Labels workspace when Labels is enabled in Settings > Features.
- View All Transactions switches from account-by-account history to one combined transaction list.
If you are specifically trying to clean up label names or understand labeled balances inside an account, jump to Manage Labels and Labeling Money.
The main Accounts screen is split into two big jobs:
- Accounts Overview shows your open accounts grouped by type, with balances and activity totals.
- Closed Accounts (if you have any) keeps archived accounts out of your active list while still letting you review them.
To add a new account, use the Add Button or the Combo Palette command Add Account.
