Features

Turn optional features on or off and understand how feature settings can change the screens, forms, and workflows available in the app.

Feature settings can change more than a single toggle. They can reveal new workflows, add fields to forms, and change navigation.

Treat feature changes as workflow changes #

If you turn on a feature, take a moment to review the parts of the app it affects. That is the cleanest way to avoid surprises later.

How feature settings work #

The Features page is where you turn optional capabilities on or off globally.

When a feature has a follow-up settings page, the Settings modal shows an Open … settings action for that feature once the feature is enabled.

Those detail pages also appear under Feature Settings in the Settings sidebar, but only while the related feature is available.

Budget #

Enable Budgeting #

Enable Budgeting turns on the budgeting workflows, intended overlays, and commit-related budget behavior.

When Budgeting is enabled, the Budget feature-settings page becomes available.

Budget feature settings #

  • Current Month Period changes which budget month is currently open for transaction and assignment work.
    • This setting is intended so you can manually change the current month outside the normal process of opening and closing months.
  • Save Current Month applies the new month period after you change it.

Enable Targets #

Enable Targets turns on target suggestions and target-based planning actions.

This setting depends on Budgeting. If Budgeting is off, Targets cannot be enabled.

When Targets is enabled, the Targets feature-settings page becomes available.

Target feature settings #

  • Target Visualization chooses how category target progress is shown in the Budget grid.
  • Bar Stack keeps the horizontal stack display under each category.
  • Target switches to the target-style progress-ring display.

Enable Strict Mode #

Enable Strict Mode requires overspending to be covered before overspending transactions are saved.

This setting also depends on Budgeting.

When Strict Mode is enabled, the Strict Mode feature-settings page becomes available.

Strict Mode feature settings #

  • Default Cover Overspending Category pre-fills the Cover Overspending dialog with a preferred category.
  • choosing a default saves time, but you can still choose a different funding source when you actually cover overspending
  • No default category leaves the dialog unfilled by default

Planning #

Enable Income Sources #

When Income Sources is enabled, the Income Sources feature-settings page becomes available.

Income Sources feature settings #

  • Offer to Generate Expected Income controls whether the Budget page prompts you when a month has active income sources but no expected income yet

Enable Income Planning #

Enable Income Planning turns on expected-income overlays and planned Ready to Assign values.

This setting depends on Budgeting, and enabling it also enables Income Sources.

When Income Planning is enabled, the Income Planning feature-settings page becomes available.

  • when enabled, Unplanned excludes the currently viewed month and uses totals only up to the previous month
Offer to match Fill to Target-type Targets to entered Planned Amounts #
  • this setting applies to future unopened months
  • when you manually enter a Planned amount for a monthly or weekly Fill to Target category and that amount differs from the target, Common Cents can offer to update the target amount to match what you entered
Auto-Commit Plans #
  • Auto-Commit Plans automatically commits planned amounts after eligible transaction updates

Accounts #

Enable Labels #

Enable Labels turns on label tracking and label-based filtering without changing your budget balances.

Use this when you want a second organizing layer on transaction details.

Enable Revolving Debt Accounts (Credit Cards / LOC) #

Enable Revolving Debt Accounts turns on revolving debt account creation, card-payment flows, and the related actions those accounts need.

You cannot disable it while revolving debt accounts still exist. In that case, Settings shows a warning with the current account count.

Enable Installment Debt Accounts (Loans) #

Enable Installment Debt Accounts turns on installment and loan-style debt account creation, loan payment flows, and interest actions.

You cannot disable it while installment debt accounts still exist.

Enable Fixed Asset Accounts #

Enable Fixed Asset Accounts turns on fixed-asset account creation and disposal workflows.

You cannot disable it while fixed asset accounts still exist.

Transactions #

Enable Mass Transaction Entry #

Enable Mass Transaction Entry adds the spreadsheet-style bulk transaction entry workflow to the Add menu.

When this feature is enabled, the Mass Transaction Entry feature-settings page becomes available.

Mass Transaction Entry feature settings #

Row Batch Size #
  • Row Batch Size controls how many blank rows the sheet opens with and how many rows Add more rows adds at a time
  • the allowed range is 1 to 500 rows
  • Save Row Batch Size applies the new batch size
Import Behavior #
  • Enable Payee Matching lets imports match bank payee names to saved payees, prompts for unresolved imported payees right away, and enables imported alias management on payees
  • Add Button Default chooses whether the main Add button opens Single Transaction or Multiple Transactions by default
    • Single Transaction opens the standard Add Transaction form
    • Multiple Transactions opens Mass Transaction Entry from the Add button
Import Mappings #
  • the Import Mappings manager is part of the Mass Transaction Entry settings page
  • it lets you create, edit, and delete reusable import mappings for repeated import layouts

A practical rule for this page #

If a feature adds a new workflow, enable it first and then immediately open its feature settings before you rely on the workflow in real work.
