Planning Overview

Planning lets you prepare a budget for future activity. It uses Scheduled Transactions to forecast recurring inflows and outflows, Planning Mode to decide what future inflows should fund, and Review & Apply to move actual funding into the budget when it is available.

Planning does not create or change real transactions by itself. Your forecast stays separate from the money that is already available to assign.

To use it, enable Scheduled Transactions in Settings > Features.

The planning workflow #

1. Create recurring scheduled inflows and outflows in Scheduled Transactions.
2. Generate the occurrences for the month you want to forecast.
3. Review the future inflows and outflows in the Budget forecast.
4. Use Planning Mode and Ready to Plan to set Planned Assigned amounts from scheduled inflows.
5. When actual funding is available, use Review & Apply to turn selected planned add-ons into assigned money.

The two funding pools #

• Ready to Assign is actual, unassigned money. Use it in Assign Mode.
• Ready to Plan is forecast funding from pending scheduled inflows. Use it in Planning Mode.

The separation is intentional: a scheduled inflow can help you plan, but it does not become money you can spend or assign until it is real funding.

Scheduled outflows are part of the same forecast. They show future spending or transfers in the relevant month and category, helping you see upcoming obligations before they post. They do not add to Ready to Plan and are not applied through Review & Apply.
