Payees Overview

Payees are the names behind your transactions. They represent people, businesses, or other sources and destinations of money.

In Common Cents, payees are more than freeform text. The Payees workspace gives you one place to keep canonical names clean, set optional default categories, review usage, and merge duplicates when your data starts drifting.

What payees do not replace #

Payees tell you who the money involved. Categories still tell Common Cents what the money is for.

Use payees for identity and cleanup. Use categories for budget meaning.
