Edit Your Dashboard

Choose File > Edit Page to change Dashboard. The command becomes Save & Exit Page while you are editing. Dashboard also shows Save & Exit and Discard & Exit buttons at the top of the page.

Edits are a draft until you save. If you navigate away with unsaved changes, Common Cents lets you stay, discard the draft, or save before leaving. Closing or reloading the app uses the browser’s standard unsaved-change warning.

The layout vocabulary #

Dashboard uses a six-column grid.

• A row is a full-width horizontal section with up to six columns.
• A block is one card, details view, report, or blank space placed on the grid.
• A row containing one block is a simple row. It has no lane controls.
• Once a row has two or more blocks, it uses lanes. A lane has its own width within the row and can hold blocks vertically.
• A subrow is one horizontal line of blocks inside a lane. Blocks fit side by side in a subrow when their combined widths fit the lane. A following block begins the next subrow.

For example, a six-column row can contain a three-column lane beside another three-column lane. Each lane can have several vertically stacked blocks, and a lane can have a subrow of three one-column cards.

Add rows and blocks #

In edit mode, a thin Add Row rule appears above the first row, between rows, and below the last row. Hover or focus it to expand it into a plus button. Choose a block type and the item you want to add.

Unused columns in a row appear as a large plus target. Choosing it adds another block beside the existing content; if this is the second block in the row, lanes appear automatically.

Within a lane, the warning-colored plus rules appear:

• above the first subrow
• between subrows
• below the last subrow

They add a block at that exact vertical position. Empty space beside a block in a subrow is also an add target, so a smaller block can share the remaining lane width with another compatible block.

The picker disables block choices that cannot fit the available columns. A row or lane always keeps its own width; adding a block does not silently make other blocks narrower.

Resize and delete #

Each block’s related actions menu provides:

• Resize — choose a legal width that fits the row or lane.
• Options — rename and configure the block. Blank blocks have no options.
• Delete — remove only that block after confirmation.

Lane related actions provide:

• Resize — change the lane’s width without exceeding the six columns in its row or making it narrower than a block it contains.
• Delete Lane — removes the lane. If it has blocks, the confirmation explains that those blocks will also be removed.

An empty row shows a plus/minus control. Its menu includes Delete Row. Empty rows are also removed automatically when you save.

Drag and drop #

Use a block’s left drag handle to move it. Compatible places highlight while you drag.

• Drop onto a block or compatible lane to insert the block there.
• Drop onto an unused-column target to create a lane in that row.
• Drop onto a lane plus control to insert above, between, or below its subrows.
• Drop onto a row plus control to create a new row at that exact position.

A block can move between rows and lanes only when its width fits the destination. Moving a block changes its owner to the destination row or lane; it does not swap whole lanes.

Use the lane drag handle to reorder lanes horizontally within their current row. Lanes cannot be dragged into a different row.

Page actions #

The related actions menu beside Save & Exit provides page-level actions.

• Page Options changes the page name and whether that name displays outside edit mode. Changes in the sheet need its own Save button before they enter the draft.
• Clear Page removes all blocks from the draft after confirmation.
• Reset to Default replaces the draft with the built-in Dashboard layout after confirmation.

Choose Save & Exit to write the draft to the current file and leave edit mode. Choose Discard & Exit to leave edit mode without saving any draft changes.
